The Cascades Garden Restaurant & Lounge

A landmark eatery in the 1970s, the Cascades Restaurant and Lounge featured waterfalls, lush greenery and a moat around the building designed to resemble a Polynesian hideaway.

A lounge downstairs continued the theme with water cascading down the windows and guests seated in a darkened garden. Upstairs the rooms were bright and airy and garden-like.

The site on North Federal Highway had been a Patricia Murphy’s restaurant, the second in Florida. The first was at Bahia Mar in Ft. Lauderdale where the famed restaurant owner had created an elegant dining spot known for its popovers.

Patricia Murphy’s closed in Deerfield Beach in the late 1960s and the restaurant became the Cascades also notable for its vertical and highly visible sign that spelled out the word Cascades.
Also notable: the popovers remained on the menu.
